Eftersom hovreportern missade KM så bad jag Hari skriva några rader om finalen.
With a slight cold, Ulf was not completely feeling it at the start of the day. But he brightened the place up anyway with his fabulous custom biljard shirt and proved too good not to qualify for the business end of the tournament that evening.
He was determined to enjoy the occasion and sank a few brews and whiskies with his dinner which did a wonderful job of compensating for the slight downer of his silly cold. His cueing arm was steady, his delivery of the cue smooth, his focus recalibrated. In the final against Tobbe, he won their opening match with three sublime pots. The second frame could have gone either way. It was tricky for both to navigate. Ulf going in-off gave Tobbe an opportunity to clear his last two balls and the black, but they were in tricky positions near the bottom rail. A head scratching Tobbe commented that it was ’tough, interesting and fun’, clearly enjoying the occasion. But the balls were just a little too awkward and Tobbe let Ulf come back in again. Composed, knowing full well that the balls were sitting in good positions, Ulf came to the table knowing it was his game to take if he wanted it. He chalked his cue, set aside any thoughts of glory and applause, nerveless and assured, he potted his last three balls, then the black, and rose a champion to a delighted crowd. Full of confidence, raising both clenched fists to the sky in the classic victory stance he declared, ’now I have bragging rights for a year’ with the self-satisfied smile of a winner.
